Quality Harwood with Craftsman Installation, That is the Ayoub N&H Way.Hardwood flooring is a beautiful addition to any home, allowing you to customize a space with a desired style or function. From a wide plank flooring that can make a room look larger, to more traditional hardwood styles such as oak flooring, allow us to help you find the right floors for your home. Learn about some of the available options below and contact us with any questions about functionality or design. We’re here to help!
Solid HardwoodJust as it sounds, this type of flooring comes in strips that are solid hardwood. It is available in various species such as Oak, Cherry, Maple, and many others. Since each plank is a solid piece of wood, it can be sanded down and refinished, allowing you to refresh your floors multiple times. With the flexibility to sand your floors, having solid hardwood will allow you to change the color as well! The hot new hardwood color ten years ago may not be in style now. No problem! We can sand a thin layer from the surface and refinish with an available color of your choice.
Engineered HardwoodIf you want hardwood floors but have a concrete sub-floor, engineered hardwood gives you the same great look! This option is made of a compressed wood base with a thin layer of hardwood on the surface, allowing it to be installed in spaces that may have moisture issues. Engineered hardwood can sometimes even be refinished! Check out the pictures below, can you tell the difference?
Is your favorite hardwood also durable? When shopping for new hardwood floors, be sure to consider the benefits and drawbacks of your selection. Hardness rating, based on the Janka hardness test, is a good place to start. Some hardwoods such as Brazilian Walnut are the most durable and resist scratching more than others. Softer hardwoods such as Pine can scratch more easily. Before you make a selection, search the graph below to determine if the hardwood you select will hold up to the planned use.Image courtesy of National Wood Flooring Association.
What impacts the appearance of hardwood?Other than durability and color, you’ll want to be sure to consider other aspects of how your hardwood will look with your room décor. If you’re looking for a smooth appearance, consider the grade of the wood and cut angle.
- Clear Wood: Most uniform appearance and grain marks.
- Select Wood: Some color variations and unique characteristics.
- No. 1 Common: More color variation, possibly with knots and other imperfections.
- No. 2 Common: Most visible variation, common in many rustic style hardwoods.
- Plainsawn: Most common cut. Shows some grain variation.
- Quartersawn and Riftsawn: More uniform grain appearance.
