How to Remove Milk from Carpet

Method 1

Solvent and Detergent Method

*Before attempting to remove the stain, test an inconspicuous area for color fastness.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  1. Solvent- liquid, non-oily, non-caustic type sold for spot removal from garments. Use products for grease, oil and tar removal. Such as Carbona and Afta. Important: Do not apply directly to the carpet to prevent damage to the backing.
  2. 1/4 teaspoon clear dish-washing detergent (Dawn, Joy, or clear Ivory)
  3. 1 cup warm (not hot) water for solution
  4. Additional warm water for rinsing
  5. Clean dry white cloths or white paper towels
  6. Bowl for mixing
  7. Flat/smooth bottomed baking dish large enough for the affected area
  8. Heavy object, like books or a jug of water

Step 1

Apply solvent to dry towel / cloth

Step 2

Working from the outside in–blot the affected area (do not rub or scrub) Scrubbing could damage the carpet fibers.

Step 3

Repeat steps 1-2 until there is no longer any color transfer to the towel

Step 4

Mix detergent and warm water in small bowl.

Step 5

Working from the outside in–blot the affected area (do not rub or scrub) Scrubbing could damage the carpet fibers.

Step 6

To rinse the detergent from the carpet. use a fresh cloth to apply clean water. This will ensure that you remove all detergent residue.

Step 7

To absorb the excess water, apply a thick stack of paper towels to the area. On top of the paper towels place a flat glass baking dish weighted down with books, or other heavy objects.

Step 8

To speed up the drying process, periodically add fresh paper towels to the bottom of the stack.  This wicking process may take several hours.

Step 9

If solvent remains, repeat steps 4-8

They cleaned some rugs that were in my basement that had been damaged from flooding… I thought that Ayoub N&H Carpet and Rugs did a fantastic job. They even smelled fresh and clean when they were done. I would definitely recommend their services to others. They are also very reasonable on their charges.
