For wall-to-wall carpet, nylon is generally the most durable and resilient fiber, which is why it holds up so well on stairs and in high-traffic areas. Triexta fibers like Mohawk’s SmartStrand are also highly durable and add strong stain resistance, and natural wool is prized for its resilience. Construction matters too: denser carpets with a lower, tighter pile, including many loop and Berber styles, tend to wear better than long, loose ones. Often, yes. If the vinyl is flat, smooth, and firmly bonded to the subfloor, carpet can usually be installed over it using tackless strips. It is not always the best approach, though.
